Resumen
Esta investigación identificó la relación entre el apoyo emocional de los profesores, el compromiso y el desempeño académico de los estudiantes de primero de primaria en tres clases de matemáticas. Participaron cinco profesores y 119 estudiantes de primer grado. Se utilizó la pauta de observación Classroom Assessment Scoring System Pre-K para describir el apoyo emocional. Para medir el compromiso, se utilizó la técnica del muestreo de experiencias, específicamente, el cuestionario de motivación emergente para niños y niñas. Entre los resultados, se destaca que los profesores presentaron un nivel medio de apoyo emocional, y la consideración de la perspectiva del estudiante fue la dimensión con los niveles más bajos. Asimismo, se encontró una asociación positiva entre el apoyo emocional y el compromiso de los estudiantes, pero no se identificó una relación significativa entre el apoyo emocional y el desempeño académico.
Engagement and academic achievement in first grade: the role of emotional support in mathematics
Abstract:
This study examined the relationships among teachers’ emotional support, engagement, and the academic achievement of first-grade students in mathematics classes. Five teachers and 119 first-grade students participated. The Classroom Assessment Scoring System Pre-K observation guideline was used to describe emotional support. A questionnaire on emergent motivation for preschool was used to measure commitment. The results showed that teachers provided moderate emotional support, with the student's perspective as the dimension of this support that received the lowest levels. Similarly, a positive relationship was found between emotional support and student commitment, but no significant relationship was identified between emotional support and academic performance.
